115th Anniversary of the Discovery of Xrays

The Beginning of Radiology was Born!

X-ray technology was invented completely by accident. In 1895, a German physicist named Wilhelm Roentgen made the discovery while experimenting with electron beams in a gas discharge tube. Roentgen noticed that a fluorescent screen in his lab started to glow when the electron beam was turned on. This response in itself wasn't so surprising -- fluorescent material normally glows in reaction to electromagnetic radiation -- but Roentgen's tube was surrounded by heavy black cardboard. Roentgen assumed this would have blocked most of the radiation.

( if you are completely lost in what you are reading so far, STOP reading!! I'll explain it to you later in easier terms :) ) LOL!!!
I understanding this because I work in radiology :P

Roentgen placed various objects between the tube and the screen, and the screen still glowed. Finally, he put his hand in front of the tube, and saw the silhouette of his bones projected onto the fluorescent screen. Immediately after discovering X-rays themselves, he had discovered their most beneficial application.

Roentgen's remarkable discovery precipitated one of the most important medical advancements in human history. X-ray technology lets doctors see straight through human tissue to examine broken bones, cavities and swallowed objects with extraordinary ease

X-rays are basically the same thing as visible light rays. Both are wavelike forms of electromagnetic energy carried by particles called photons . The difference between X-rays and visible light rays is the energy level of the individual photons. This is also expressed as the wavelength of the rays.

Our eyes are sensitive to the particular wavelength of visible light, but not to the shorter wavelength of higher energy X-ray waves or the longer wavelength of the lower energy radio waves.

Visible light photons and X-ray photons are both produced by the movement of electrons in atoms. Electrons occupy different energy levels, or orbitals, around an atom's nucleus. When an electron drops to a lower orbital, it needs to release some energy -- it releases the extra energy in the form of a photon. The energy level of the photon depends on how far the electron dropped between orbitals.

When a photon collides with another atom, the atom may absorb the photon's energy by boosting an electron to a higher level. For this to happen, the energy level of the photon has to match the energy difference between the two electron positions. If not, the photon can't shift electrons between orbitals.

The atoms that make up your body tissue absorb visible light photons very well. The energy level of the photon fits with various energy differences between electron positions. Radio waves don't have enough energy to move electrons between orbitals in larger atoms, so they pass through most stuff. X-ray photons also pass through most things, but for the opposite reason:
They have too much energy.

They can, however, knock an electron away from an atom altogether. Some of the energy from the X-ray photon works to separate the electron from the atom, and the rest sends the electron flying through space. A larger atom is more likely to absorb an X-ray photon in this way, because larger atoms have greater energy differences between orbitals -- the energy level more closely matches the energy of the photon. Smaller atoms, where the electron orbitals are separated by relatively low jumps in energy, are less likely to absorb X-ray photons.

The soft tissue in your body is composed of smaller atoms, and so does not absorb X-ray photons particularly well. The calcium atoms that make up your bones are much larger, so they are better at absorbing X-ray photons.

I could danced all night!

Julie Andrews is still my favorite one who sings this song!

Eliza Bed! Bed! I couldn't go to bed!
My head's too light to try to set it down! Sleep! Sleep!
I couldn't sleep tonight. Not for all the jewels in the crown!
I could have danced all night! I could have danced all night!
And still have begged for more.
I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things
I've never done before.
I'll never know What made it so exciting;
Why all at once My heart took flight.
I only know when he Began to dance with me
I could have danced, danced, danced all night!
Servant 1 It's after three now.
Servant 2 Don't you agree now, She ought to be in bed.
Eliza I could have danced all night! I could have danced all night!
And still have begged for more.
I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things I've never done before.
I'll never know What made it so exciting.
Why all at once my heart took flight.
I only know when he
Began to dance with me.
I could have danced, danced danced all night!
Mrs. Pearce I understand, dear.
It's all been grand, dear. But now it's time to sleep.
Eliza I could have danced all night, I could have danced all night.
And still have begged for more. I could have spread my wings,
And done a thousand things I've never done before.
I'll never know What made it so exciting.
Why all at once my heart took flight.
I only know when he Began to dance with me I could have danced, danced, danced All night!

GoodBye Tustin

Goodbye Tustin Villas!

It's been a good two years. For my roommates Jeannie, missa,Liz who shared the townhouse with me, THANK YOU. We never got our roommate dinner, but we did have late late morning talks together. We had a crazy neighbor that was going through menopause, who complained about everything about us.
We had the very dramatic family next door who blocked our garage when they washed their motor home.
It was a good two years for everything that came and went in that town house.

Good times.

1% Milk

Dear 1% milk,
I am glad we crossed paths today when I put you in my cereal. We haven't see each other in a long time, because i switched over to fat free skim milk. It seems you are still bitter about that, because of the horrendous ache you are making my stomach have. i am sorry things have to end this way between us. ...I am a Fat free Skim milk women now. You are going to have to get over it!

August Man of the Month

Elvis Presley

Why you might ask? Today is the anniversary of Elvis's death. On August 16, 1977, Elvis was to begin another tour that night when that afternoon Alden ( his friend ) discovered him unresponsive on his bathroom floor. His death was officially pronounced at 3:30 pm at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
The world stopped as we knew it when everyone had to listen be noticed that The King was no longer with us on this earth. His health problem took a turn for the worse 4 years earlier when his divorce from Priscilla took effect on October 9, 1973. He overdosed on barbiturates twice that year, and went into a coma for three days in his hotel. His drug habit started in the army, where they gave him sleeping pills to fall asleep during time time. He had a pill to make him fall asleep, and a pill to make him wake up. His death was caused by overdosing on drugs.

This is the day that everyone will remember that the King officially died.

Thank you Elvis Aaron Presley for changing the way of music for us!
